Distiller Notes
This third edition of Laubade's L'Unique series is produced exclusively from a 3.5 acres plot of a rare grape called "Plant de Graisse."
The nose is gourmand, powerful and offers an incisive side, intensity, a small richness as well as a fine, round side. It reveals notes of orange, pepper, lemon, small notes of dry peach, very fine hints of nectarine, small white fruits as well as a subtle hint of rose, cedar and rancio. The palate is fruity and fat, offering a fine acidulous frame, roundness, slight fleshiness as well as good definition. On the palate this Armagnac expresses notes of lychee, rose, small touches of lemon zest, mandarin, as well as subtle hints of lime, pepper, cedar as well as an imperceptible hint of violet in the background. Good length.
Cardinal Vital Du Four claimed that it “cures gout and cankers, heals wounds of the skin … renders men joyous, preserves youth and retards senility.”
Armagnac is produced in the Gascony region of Southwest France and is among the earliest of spirits produced, prescribed over the last 700 years for a myriad of therapeutic benefits. Owing to its ancient heritage, the production method is much simpler than that of its cousin, Cognac, with just a single distillation through a column still prior to barrel aging. This yields a spirit that is generally more flavorful and fragrant than other Brandies.
