    Winemaker Notes

The wine is a very deep garnet red color. The nose has intense aromas of fresh red fruits and spices. The oak is well integrated in the heart of the wines aromatic structure. Totally typical style from the Languedoc with fine notes of 'garrigues'. At first on the palate the wine is quite reserved and then rapidly opens out. It is rich, balanced and elegant. The tannins are tight and silky. Crispy fruit. The retro-olfaction is spicy and floral. A long and dense finish. The rich tannic aspect from the Mourvedre as well as its liveliness perfectly matches the style of DBR.

Blend: 60% Syrah, 10% Grenache and 30% Mourvedre

    Chateau d'Aussieres
Château d'Aussières is located near Narbonne, in the Corbières in the microclimate of Fontfroide and Boutenac. Château d'Aussières has been since the Roman era, one of the great estates of the Languedoc. In the Middle Ages, it belonged to the celebrated Abbey of Fontfroide, its neighbor. With its exceptional location and terroir and by the force of its history, the Château d'Aussières is, a wild and natural property of intense and powerful beauty.

Acquired in 1999 by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), the 550 hectare estate has undergone a vast rehabilitation programme. 167 hectares of vines have been replanted with carefully selected traditional Languedoc grape varieties: Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan, complemented by Cabernet, Merlot and Chardonnay. The estate buildings were restored at the same time and a new winery installed in the old cellars, in the heart of the vineyard. State-of-the-art equipment and technology are seamlessly married to time-tested methods in the production of the wine.

The Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without thinking of the other. Although Cabernet has many important outposts throughout the wine world, nowhere else has it achieved such success (and, at the highest end, commanded such lofty prices) than in Napa. Here, it is responsible for bold, opulent, and dark-fruited wines with grippy tannins and a healthy dose of alcohol. The best examples can age for decades. Each of Napa’s smaller sub-AVAs imparts a different character to Cabernet, such as Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
