Charbay makes Nostalgie in small batches and it is sold locally. They extract locally gathered Black, English and Carpathian walnuts in their own brandy. Set aside for two years, the rich dark liquid is then blended with a secret mix of herbs and spices to round out the rich walnut flavors.
Pour into a small stemmed glass, sit down and enjoy. The balanced complex flavors will surprise you as they roll on and on long after the last sip. It has the yummy factor.
First prepared by 13th century Italian monks as herbal medicines and elixirs, Liqueurs are distilled spirits that have been combined with flavoring agents. A range of herbs, spices, nuts, fruits and flowers can be used, and a sweetener such as sugar or corn syrup is often added. While typically rather sweet, some examples are herbaceous or tart and pair exceptionally well with desserts or act as a delightful addition to cocktails.
