This wine is deep yellow with golden flecks, evoking the warmth of summer sun and the richness of ripe tropical fruits like mango and papaya. Its marked acidity provides a beautiful balance, making it suitable for long-term bottle aging. On the palate, it is lush, ample, and lingering, with hints of flowers and spice, all defined by its trademark acidity and zesty tang. The finish is long. This wine is a perfect pairing for "Minestra di Sgavajone," a traditional soup made by the fishermen of Anzio using a local fish.

The Casale del Giglio 2024 Bellone Anthium is made with a little-known Lazio grape that reminds me of Fiano or even Chardonnay. It feels like it hits many points between the two. It shows a waxy, glossy texture with sweet fruit on the close. You get aromas of candied lemon, sweet almond and peach. These results are quite intriguing, to be honest, and it's fun to be able to taste a grape that is said to have been first identified by Latin author and Roman naturalist Pliny the Elder.
There are hundreds of white grape varieties grown throughout the world. Some are indigenous specialties capable of producing excellent single varietal wines. Each has its own distinct viticultural characteristics, as well as aroma and flavor profiles.
Known as the ancient homeland of the Latins, today there is a vigorus wine industry beyond the city limits of modern, bustling Rome. The Cesanese grape, full of red berry, spice and rose, is responsible for Lazio’s only true local reds. Lazio’s most famous white wine, called Frascati, is based on the local Malvasia del Lazio and Trebbiano Toscana. A sweet version, called Cannellino di Frascati, is also made.
