Winemaker Notes
Rocche di Castiglione is one of the most coveted crus in the appellation, and for good reason: its high-altitude, white-sand soils render a Barolo of dizzying perfume and supreme elegance. Brovia owns a 1.5-hectare parcel of southeast-facing vines at 350 meters altitude, and this is indeed the most refined wine in their lineup year after year. Intoxicatingly aromatic, with sappy red fruits and baking spice overlaying an exceptionally precise minerality, it rings on the palate, with tannins simultaneously caressing and powerful.

Here is another excellent wine from Brovia. The 2020 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is angular and sharp with fine, firm tannins and a beautiful bouquet that opens slowly to tart cherry aromas, blue flower, crushed stone and fleur de sel. Those mineral sensations cut right into the finish, giving shape and contouring. This is a generous vintage with bright, accessible and incredibly charming qualities.

The 2020 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a sexy, racy wine. Pliant and deep, the 2020 is a great example of this site. Soft contours wrap around a core of dark red fruit, kirsch, spice, menthol, new leather and licorice. Time in the glass brings out the wine's stunning inner perfume, that most Rocche of signatures. Deep and layered, with exceptional balance, the 2020 is a striking, captivating wine that captures the best the vintage had to offer.
Responsible for some of the most elegant and age-worthy wines in the world, Nebbiolo, named for the ubiquitous autumnal fog (called nebbia in Italian), is the star variety of northern Italy’s Piedmont region. Grown throughout the area, as well as in the neighboring Valle d’Aosta and Valtellina, it reaches its highest potential in the Piedmontese villages of Barolo, Barbaresco and Roero. Outside of Italy, growers are still very much in the experimentation stage but some success has been achieved in parts of California. Somm Secret—If you’re new to Nebbiolo, start with a charming, wallet-friendly, early-drinking Langhe Nebbiolo or Nebbiolo d'Alba.
