Distiller Notes

2022 San Francisco World Spirits Double Gold Medal Winner

This Rye whiskey is distilled in Owensboro Kentucky - just like their bourbon. However, it is unlike any rye whiskey you’ve ever tasted. Charred French oak gives a woody body to the spirit, while ex-bourbon (still soaked from the previous tenant) and ex-sherry cask staves all join forces to create a fiery, yet balanced and smooth taste and finish. They use the same proprietary Oak Bill to embolden this rye whiskey and give it an uncommon and untraditional taste and character. Aged a minimum of two years.

Professional Ratings

  • 91 Whisky Advocate
This is a barrel-stave finished whiskey that brings together staves from bourbon barrels, new French oak, and sherry casks to create a crisp and tropical rye, complete with crackling baking spice and rich stewed fruits. The nose opens with grapefruit, pineapple, mango sorbet, and Creamsicle. The palate cooks the fruit, introducing jammy sweetness, peach melba, and toasted baking spices. The finish dries out and ends with chocolate-covered espresso beans.

Known for its peppery, spicy bite, Rye serves as the ideal base for cocktails like the Sazerac, Manhattan or Old Fashioned. In order for a spirit to be labeled an American Rye Whiskey, the mash bill must be comprised of at least 51% rye grain. The remainder of the mash is most often a combination of malted barley, wheat or corn. After distillation is complete, the spirit is transferred to unused, charred white oak barrels for a minimum of two years, though many producers choose to age longer.
