James Suckling
A serious wine but with some lightness in a positive way. Lifted aromas of cherries and dark fruit, with a juicy palate, a medium body, crisp acidity and a tight yet crunchy finish. Try from 2026.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
This is a much-loved organic blend of 80% Merlot with smaller percentages of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Brancaia 2022 Il Blu plays a strong hand of cards texturally with velvety tannins and an ample medium- to full-bodied build. At its core, dark fruit and blackberry abound, and the wine shows lasting intensity and makes a lovely tactile impression.

Vinous
The 2022 Il Blu, Brancaia's top wine from the Radda estate, is terrific. Punchy red-toned fruit, blood orange, spice, menthol and mocha are all dialled up. The 2022 is perhaps not quite as structured as some recent vintages. In exchange, it will drink well with just a few years of cellaring, once some of the baby fat has melted away.
Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.
A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
