Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A landmark wine on all levels, the 2011 Il Blu really seems to love the heat of the vintage. Barbara Widmer says that heat spikes followed by intermittent cool spells helped to establish complexity in her wines. Il Blu is 50% Sangiovese, 45% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose is painted in broad strokes of espresso bean, black cherry, baking spice and moist tobacco. The mouthfeel is infinitely soft and supple.

Lots of terracotta and berry character with hints of spice and chocolate. Full body, chewy but polished tannins and a flavorful finish. This is so beautiful now to drink but will reward those who are patient.

Offering a mix of black cherry, dark plum and spice flavors, this red combines power and fluidity. The tannins are assertive for now, but this remains fresh and intense on the long finish. Tobacco and mineral notes show on the finish. Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2017 through 2027.
Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.
A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
