Winemaker Notes
Bright, deep scarlet color. Dark plum and white pepper aromas on the nose. A well-structured wine framed by dry Italian herbs with notes of cinnamon and clove spices. Abundant blackberry bramble and touches of maraschino cherry fill the mid-palate. This Pinot Noir has a bold entry that mellows quickly with a delightfully long finish.
Pair this wine with a bison burger, roasted summer veggies or a charcuterie board.

COMMENTARY: Over the past decade, the rise of round, textured, and almost candied Pinot Noirs have come onto the marketplace. While these wines are far from the classic models of yesteryear, they have gained traction amongst consumers as a "cocktail" style red wine. The 2017 Böen California Pinot Noir is an excellent example of what we will see of more in the coming future. TASTING NOTES: This wine is ripe, round, and smooth. Its aromas and flavors of black fruits, candied, and oak should make it pleasing red with simple grilled meats. (Tasted: February 6, 2019, San Francisco, CA)
Internationally recognized for gorgeous, pure fruit combined with great elegance, California Pinot noir thrives among the state’s cooler, coastal zones. Characterized by eclectic flavors and aromas of strawberry, black cherry, plum and potpourri with notes of forest floor, mushroom or black tea, the best California Pinot noir boast a supple texture and good acidity, giving them the ability to improve with age.
Credited with the beginning of Pinot noir’s glory in California, two growers, Joe Rochioli and Joseph Swan in the late 1960s independently planted Pinot noir vineyards in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County. Today Sonoma County remains the leading producer of Pinot noir in the state, and Pinot noir is the leading red grape in the county, achieving its highest potential, in the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast.
Other coastal appellations where Pinot noir flourishes include Carneros, Anderson Valley and most of the Central Coast.
