Bluish ruby red. Notes of kumquat, jasmine and stone. It has a cool texture that is both meaty and crunchy. Silky and solemn tannins envelope the palate with good length.

The 2020 Las Alas de Frontonio La Tejera wants to be a light and fresh Garnacha that combines the character from the soils with attractive aromas of aromatic herbs. It's the result of fermenting the full clusters of an old plot on slate, clay and quartzite soils in concrete with selected yeasts and then matured in foudre for 14 months. It has moderate ripeness and alcohol (13.5%) while retaining good freshness and acidity. It has flowers (dry rose petals), citrus and tons of aromatic and Mediterranean herbs. It's a little rounder than the 2021 I tasted next to it (a constant when comparing the 2020s with 2021s), with rounder tannins and a gentler mouthfeel.
Spanish red wine is known for being bold, heady, rustic and age-worthy, Spain is truly a one-of-a-kind wine-producing nation. A great majority of the country is hot, arid and drought-ridden, and since irrigation has only been recently introduced and (controversially) accepted, viticulture has sustained—and flourished—only through a great understanding of Spain’s particular conditions. Large spacing between vines allows each enough resources to survive and as a result, the country has the most acreage under vine compared to any other country, but is usually third in production.
Of the Spanish red wines, the most planted and respected grape variety is Tempranillo, the star of Spain’s Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions. Priorat specializes in bold red blends, Jumilla has gained global recognition for its single varietal Monastrell and Utiel-Requena has garnered recent attention for its reds made of Bobal.
