    Winemaker Notes

Our Rose’ has a beautiful bright pink-red color from the highly pigmented Malbec grapes. It has a wonderful aroma of sweet red fruits, especially strawberries and raspberries. The wine has lots of weight and concentration on the palate. It delivers tart cherry flavors and is framed by crisp acidity that works nicely to balance its weight. It also shows a complex minerality and a nice layer of fine tannins and the wine finishes clean and lively and lasts long after sipping.

Whether it’s playful and fun or savory and serious, most rosé today is not your grandmother’s White Zinfandel, though that category remains strong. Pink wine has recently become quite trendy, and this time around it’s commonly quite dry. Since the pigment in red wines comes from keeping fermenting juice in contact with the grape skins for an extended period, it follows that a pink wine can be made using just a brief period of skin contact—usually just a couple of days. The resulting color depends on grape variety and winemaking style, ranging from pale salmon to deep magenta.

Located within the greater Clear Lake appellation, the Red Hills AVA is perhaps the hottest spot right now in Lake County for new Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards. Recognizing the potential of its volcanic and obsidian heavy soils, many respected growers are flocking to the area. Andy Beckstoffer, a leader in escalating the quality and recognition of Napa Valley, has already invested heavily in the area.
