Winemaker Notes

The 2013 Bucephalus showcases aromas of cassis, sandalwood and clove. The opulent aromas integrate beautifully with the rich, ripe, fruit flavors of blackberry and dark cherry and a subtle nuisance of maple syrup. This full bodied wine has intense depth and broad rich flavors.

Blend: 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Syrah, 6% Petite Verdot, 4% Merlot

Critical Acclaim

All Vintages
D 90
Decanter
This Cabernet-dominated blend also contains a dash of Syrah, Petit Verdot and Merlot, and is given long ageing in about 40% new oak. The nose is imposing, with opulent blackberry fruit, and the palate too is broad-shouldered and assertive. Very concentrated, it is also somewhat monolithic, with immense power but little finesse. But an authentic Napa blockbuster.

Black Stallion Estate Winery Winery Video

Black Stallion Estate Winery is named in honor of the historic Silverado Horseman's equestrian center that once graced the property. The winery showcases the best of Napa Valley’s diverse wine growing regions by carefully selecting grapes from an array of vineyards that reflect different Napa Valley terroirs. In some instances it's a single vineyard block or a single row within a block. We blend the best lots to craft world-class wines, brimming with rich flavors and gracious, mouth filling textures.

Undoubtedly proving its merit over and over, Napa Valley is a now a leading force in the world of prestigious red wine regions. Though Cabernet Sauvignon dominates Napa Valley, other red varieties certainly thrive here. Important but often overlooked include Merlot and other Bordeaux varieties well-regarded on their own as well as for their blending capacities. Very old vine Zinfandel represents an important historical stronghold for the region and Pinot noir is produced in the cooler southern parts, close to the San Pablo Bay.

Perfectly situated running north to south, the valley acts as a corridor, pulling cool, moist air up from the San Pablo Bay in the evenings during the hot days of the growing season, which leads to even and slow grape ripening. Furthermore the valley claims over 100 soil variations including layers of volcanic, gravel, sand and silt—a combination excellent for world-class red wine production.
