Winemaker Notes
Pale straw yellow in color with lovely green reflections. An intense nose with typical aromas of Verdicchio and notes of white flowers and green apple. On the palate this wine is intense, warm, tasty, fresh and quite balanced.
It will pair wonderfully with your favorite fresh cheeses or seafood dishes.

Vinous
Like digging in a grassy field after a spring rain, the 2018 Verdicchio di Matelica Riserva Senex lifts from the glass with a burst of wet stone, flint and earth tones, as notes of green apple and hints of ginger slowly evolve. This glides across the palate with silky, near-glycerol textures and ripe orchard fruits, becoming decidedly savory and spicy toward the close. A potent staining of candied lime mixes with a bitter touch of raw almond as the 2018 finishes salty and mineral in character. While this zesty rendition of Senex doesn’t have the structure to go the long haul, after only a short stay in the cellar, it will be firing on all cylinders.

Wine Spectator
This vivid white is compact, creamy and tight-knit at first, revealing notes of baked peach, lemon curd, smoked hazelnut and vanilla wafer as they open in the glass and on the palate. Hints of lemon thyme, oyster shell and white pepper play on the lasting, racy finish. Drink now through 2035. 325 cases made, 100 cases imported.
One of central Italy’s classic white grapes, Verdicchio thrives in two distinct zones of the Marche. The best vineyards of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi adorn hillsides a mere 20 miles from the Adriatic Sea. The vineyards of the smaller, more inland Verdicchio di Matelica, are at higher elevation. Somm Secret—Recent genetic discoveries have proven that the Verdicchio grape is identical to Trebbiano di Soave, Trebbiano di Lugana and Trebbiano Veltenesi.
Stretching along Italy’s eastern coast with neighbors, Umbria to its west and Abruzzo to its south, Marche is a region with a varying climate from north to south. Its coastal plains roll into hills that become the Apennine Mountains, which run the length of the country. The Marche's best red wines come from the grapes, Montepulciano and Sangiovese; the local Verdicchio makes refreshing, crisp and light whites.
