On the nose of this rye and bourbon blend, decadent chocolate-chip pancakes and frosted cinnamon rolls are wrapped in spiced oak and fragrant leather. With water, citrus and spices emerge, unveiling cherry cola and cinnamon candies. The palate is similarly rich and, compared to the nose, unexpectedly fruit-forward. Jammy berries vie with building spiciness. Baking spices provide a sweeter contrast to this whiskey’s considerable pepper notes. The finish brings barrel char and more pepper, tempered by semi-sweet chocolate.
Capturing a broad range in one category, American Whiskey refers to any spirit made in America by distilling a mash of fermented grains—typically corn, wheat, rye or barley. American Whiskey must be distilled to no more than 95% alcohol and bottled at 40% or higher. In order to be labeled a straight Whiskey, it also must be aged in white oak barrels for a minimum of two years and not contain any added colors or flavors.
