Winemaker Notes

Ruby red, intense and very deep. Full bouquet, with aromas of blackberries and plums, complemented by licorice, black olives, and pipe-tobacco notes. Full-bodied, with supple tannins.

Perfect with bean soups, grilled meat and aged cheese.

Wine Spectator

A fruity style that's beginning to mellow, with black currant, floral, woodsy, mushroom, iron and spice flavors. Juicy and focused, offering refined tannins and terrific harmony. The lingering finish is persistent, maintaining the fruit character. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese and Syrah. Drink now through 2035.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The Castello Banfi 2016 Cum Laude is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. This wine feels a bit tight or more closely coiled and inward compared to the 2015. Ultimately, it offers more when given time to open. This wine follows the classic lines of a so-called super Tuscan red with a broad range of aromas and a Tuscan character that shines bright.

Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.

A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
