Winemaker Notes

In this wine, Serralunga d’Alba is present with signs of licorice, spices and dark fruits. Cherry, currant and blueberry melt harmoniously together. Velvety and sweetly ripe, with splendidly integrated tannins. San Rocco gives an impression of great power, austerity, with an incredible aging potential. Pure complexity. A strong character. Monumental.

A spicy wine with aromas of smoke, woodland, strawberries, strawberry leaves, red currants, violets and a touch of pepper. Firm tannins on the palate, with supple and concentrated fruit, a medium to full body and a refreshing finish. Try from 2027.

Ripe and vibrant, this red features cherry, strawberry, rose hip, eucalyptus and iron aromas and flavors, all matched to a linear frame. Turns leaner and more focused on the finish, where the dusty tannins converge with lingering red fruit notes. Shows excellent balance and length.

Pouring a brick red color, the 2021 Barolo San Rocco is focused and spicy, with notes of cinnamon, cranberries, dried redcurrants, roses, and baked earth. This medium-bodied Barolo offers a good deal of energy and finesse, with fine tannins, refreshing acidity, and savory notes of ripe orange citrus through the finish. It has a lot of pleasure now, but it’s only going to benefit from another couple of years. Drink 2027-2047.

Responsible for some of the most elegant and age-worthy wines in the world, Nebbiolo, named for the ubiquitous autumnal fog (called nebbia in Italian), is the star variety of northern Italy’s Piedmont region. Grown throughout the area, as well as in the neighboring Valle d’Aosta and Valtellina, it reaches its highest potential in the Piedmontese villages of Barolo, Barbaresco and Roero. Outside of Italy, growers are still very much in the experimentation stage but some success has been achieved in parts of California. Somm Secret—If you’re new to Nebbiolo, start with a charming, wallet-friendly, early-drinking Langhe Nebbiolo or Nebbiolo d'Alba.
