Winemaker Notes

90% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Violet-red and very intense, with black and red fruit aromas, hints of tobacco and chocolate from the contact with the oak. In the mouth, it is very complex with a combination of blackberry liquer, smoke, and sweet earth. Shows great structure combining heady fruit flavors with strong tannin structure and a long, persistent finish. Definitely a special occasion wine, it will pair well with strong-flavored foods, marinated/grilled meats, and fancier ingredients like truffles, exotic mushrooms, and foie gras.

WS 90
Wine Spectator
Game and spice aromas follow through to a jammy palate of blackberry liqueur, cassis and plum sauce notes, tightly wound with layers of spice, mocha and toasty oak that frame the long finish. Drink now through 2012. 1,000 cases imported.
W&S 90
Wine & Spirits
Grown in the Uco Valley on 70-year-old vines, this requires hours of air to reveal notes of cherries and herbs. Peppery and tense, its firm, compact structure will benefit from cellar time.

Anoro, South America
Añoro (pronounced ‘ahn-your-o’) is a unique word with no direct translation into English. In Spanish it often refers to the act of reminiscing or dreaming of a special time in one’s past. For us, it means creating something that we once only dreamed of – the wines of Añoro.

Uco Valley Wine

Mendoza, Argentina

With a winning combination of cool weather, high elevation and well-draining alluvial soils, it is no surprise that Mendoza’s Uco Valley is one of the most exciting up-and-coming wine regions in Argentina. Healthy, easy-to-manage vines produce low yields of high-quality fruit, which in turn create flavorful, full-bodied wines with generous acidity.

This is the source of some of the best Malbec in Mendoza, which can range from value-priced to ultra-premium. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay also perform well here.

Celebrated for its bold flavors and supple texture, Malbec has enjoyed runaway success in Argentina since the late 20th century. The grape originated in Bordeaux, France, where it historically contributed color and tannin to blends. A French agronomist, who saw great potential for the variety in Mendoza’s hot, high-altitude landscape, brought Malbec to Argentina in 1868. Somm Secret—If you’re trying to please a crowd, Malbec is generally a safe bet with its combination of dense fruit and soft tannins.
