Winemaker Notes

Cocoa and cedar aromas give way to cassis liqueur on the palate and lush, silky tannins. A favorite for cellar potential, this wine promises enhanced complexity over the years.

Crisp and vibrant, on the tart side, with vivid currant and purple plum fruit that zings with hints of lime and mineral as the finish lingers effortlessly against superfine tannins. Drink now through 2022.

The 2012 Pinot Noir Bryan Creek Vineyard comes from the Chehalem Mountains at an elevation of 720 to 750 feet opposite the Adelsheim's Quarter Mile Lane vineyard. Their 2012 was destemmed and underwent daily punch-downs during cold soak and three times a day during alcoholic fermentation and subsequently saw 28% new oak for ten months. It has a generous bouquet with stony, black fruit and raspberry coulis aromas developing in the glass, opening and becoming potent with continued aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with tensile, almost edgy tannins and racy acidity. There is a slight brittleness to the texture, rather chalky with an unexpectedly reserved finish that is nicely poised, although I would have preferred a little more finesse. Still, overall this is a fine Pinot Noir that should age well over the next 10-12 years.

Home of some of the planet’s most amazingly elegant and expressive Pinot noir, the Willamette Valley is a pastoral, mixed landscape of green, bucolic rolling hills, dramatic forestlands and small, independent, friendly wine growers. As a leader in environmental stewardship, the valley has some of the nation’s most protective land use policies, with two-thirds of its vineyards farmed sustainably and over half, organically. While the valley claims a cool, continental climate, and is heavily influenced by the cold, moist winds of the Pacific Ocean, its warm and dry summers allow for the steady, even ripening of Pinot noir.

The potential of Willamette Valley Pinot noir continues to attract the investment of serious growers and winemakers both locally and from abroad, as naturally the finished wines bring accolades from professionals and enthusiasts. With a range of styles from delicate dried cherry, raspberry and hibiscus to stronger notes of truffle, mocha, plum and spice, a fine Willamette Valley Pinot noir is a perfect expression of both character and grace.
