Winemaker Notes

Redigaffi has an intense color that arouses enthusiasm and satisfy the sight, it highlights great complexity characterized by the fruity attack in the mouth leaving then “room” to tobacco and liquorice notes. Good concentration given by the pre-harvesting activity, three passages and perfect maturation reached by our grapes.

Outstanding complexity. Floral notes typical of our “Macchia Mediterranea” are intense and persistent. The elegance of tannins is enhanced by the great structure and balance. Considerable extraction and good acidity.

This is a glorious young merlot with flowers, blackberries, hazelnuts and chocolate on the nose and palate. Full-bodied, layered and creamy with ripe and firm tannins. Wonderful depth and length. Better in 2022 and onwards, but already a glorious young red to try.

2017 had a hot, very dry growing season and the winery had to make a strict selection in the vineyard and take extreme care in the winery during vinification. The 2017 Redigaffi still manages to be beautifully balanced in spite of the challenges of the vintage. On the palate there's beautiful weight and texture with lovely harmony and concentration, though the vintage reveals itself on the finish with a slight dry chalkiness to the tannins. The Tua Rita team had started to focus more on vinifying single plots of vines separately by this point, and whatever the techniques employed, the result is fantastic.
  • 94 Jeb Dunnuck

From a very hot vintage, though not as extreme as 2003, and produced in limited quantities (under 6,000 bottles), the 2017 Redigaffi opens with a more contemplative nose of leather, black plum, dried tobacco, licorice, and espresso. Full-bodied, it’s more intense and structured, with firm tannins and a long finish, yet it retains enough freshness to maintain balance. This is a powerful and concentrated expression that’s starting to show some development.

  • 94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Born in yet another hot vintage on the Tuscan Coast, the 2017 Redigaffi is dark, richly concentrated, textured and soft. It offers a broad collection of plummy dark fruit aromas with cherry preserves, chocolate-covered prunes, grilled rosemary and Indian spice. However, what stands out most in this edition is the power and the firmness of the tannins. This is the proverbial big wine with a capitol B that could use more time in bottle.

  • 93 Wine Spectator

This is powerful, from the vanilla- and coconut-scented oak to the concentrated blackberry, black currant and fruitcake flavors to the muscular tannins that support it all. Notes of Mediterranean scrub and tobacco peek through on the long finish. Best from 2023 through 2035.

Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.

A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
