    Winemaker Notes

The 2008 Signe Zoller Cabernet Sauvignon has black currant jam and cedar aromas with soft tannins and a lingering vanillin oak. Sourced from the same vineyard as the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon and aged in 25% new oak for almost 2 years.

    Signe Zoller
Signe Zoller began her winemaking career in 1984, after earning a master’s degree in Enology from the University of California, Davis. A pioneer in the wine industry, Signe has created a name for herself, not only because she is a female winemaker in a predominantly male trade, but also because her innovation and drive have established her as one of the notable winemakers in California.

Her extensive knowledge of winemaking started at Kendall-Jackson winery in the 1980s when it was only a six-person operation. From there, Signe moved on to lead the winemaking at Meridian Vineyard with founding winemaker Chuck Ortman. Before starting her own label, she held senior winemaking positions at Cambria Winery in Paso Robles.

The Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without thinking of the other. Although Cabernet has many important outposts throughout the wine world, nowhere else has it achieved such success (and, at the highest end, commanded such lofty prices) than in Napa. Here, it is responsible for bold, opulent, and dark-fruited wines with grippy tannins and a healthy dose of alcohol. The best examples can age for decades. Each of Napa’s smaller sub-AVAs imparts a different character to Cabernet, such as Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
