Winemaker Notes
This wine is produced from the "Vigna Leria," a vineyard site immediately adjacent to the family home. Sitting on an ancient seabed, the soils are very poor and porous which permit the vines to extend deeply into the soil. The result is a wine of intense minerality with a fresh, lively presence on the palate. The color is vivid but not dense, having a grey-garnet hue.
Blend: 50% Nebbiolo, 30% Croatina, 20% Vespolina

Massimo Clerico's 2019 Coste della Sesia Ca' du Leria is a seriously beautiful wine. Dark, layered and super-expressive, the 2019 possesses tremendous depth and just as much character. Black cherry, tobacco, incense, licorice, dried herbs and worn-in leather stain the palate as this brooding red makes itself heard.
Attracting the most glory, prestige and fame to the Piedmont region, Nebbiolo in all of its expressions—Barolo, Barbaresco, Roero, Ghemme and Gattinara—creates a complex wine, truly unique for its delicate qualities combined with strength and a great potential to improve over time.
But Nebbiolo isn’t all there is to red wine from Piedmont! Barbera is the most planted variety and historically most popular as a dependable, food-friendly, everyday wine.
Beyond these two, a surprising number of red varieties call Piedmont their home. Worth a try include Dolcetto for its bold concentration and aromas of spice cake. Other grapes to investigate include Freisa, Croatina, Brachetto, Grignolino and Pelaverga.
