Winemaker Notes

Aromatic and expressive nose detailed through a line of pear, grilled lemon and grapefruit. Nougat, brioche, cinnamon, nutmeg, fennel seed, samphire, jalapeno and chamomile sit in the background, providing subtle complexity.

Tightly coiled and woven palate delicately layered with a diligently textured mid palate. There is a salty-brine thread like throughout the palate. Concentrated white nectarine, pear and lemon are the key hallmark primary fruits, subtle toasted hazelnuts underpinned by a finite sherbet acid thread with a mineral acid line.

Such impressive richness and concentration to the fruit here with a wealth of ripe apricot and peach on the nose. Some gentle hazelnut, too. The palate is so fleshy and vividly intense and offers a very flavorful style, in the classically powerful yet balanced Margaret River mode. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Prelude once again provides an approachable modern Aussie bottling. It's ripe, but delicately so, opening with freshly sliced melon and peach, flint, toasted nuts and a faint umami note. The palate follows a similar trajectory, with lovely citrus fruit purity and an easy-going vibe. Food friendly but also totally delicious on its own, this could cellar until around 2026.

One of the most popular and versatile white wine grapes, Chardonnay offers a wide range of flavors and styles depending on where it is grown and how it is made. While it tends to flourish in most environments, Chardonnay from its Burgundian homeland produces some of the most remarkable and longest lived examples. California produces both oaky, buttery styles and leaner, European-inspired wines. Somm Secret—The Burgundian subregion of Chablis, while typically using older oak barrels, produces a bright style similar to the unoaked style. Anyone who doesn't like oaky Chardonnay would likely enjoy Chablis.

Home to some of Australia’s most elegant and long-lived red and white wines, Margaret River is situated in the farthest reaches of Western Australia. Relatively warm and dry, the region is cooled by breezes from the Indian Ocean. Margaret River takes some inspiration from Bordeaux, producing top-quality Cabernet Sauvignons and Bordeaux Blends with firm structure, mouthwatering acidity, balanced alcohol and notes of herbs and spice. For white wines, refreshing blends of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon as well as complex, age-worthy Chardonnays are regional specialties.
