Winemaker Notes

A juicy, succulent and marginally less spicy vintage than the '23, the nose showing red currants, plums and rosewater. The palate is fresh and crunchy, with lively acids and a sappy, dry tannin structure bringing tension and focus to the wine alongside fynbos and wet earth. As the wine unfolds, the distinctive violet note comes to the fore, with olives and licorice adding further layers of complexity.

Professional Ratings

  • 92 James Suckling
Lively and crunchy. Aromas of raspberries, pomegranates, pink peppercorns and licorice follow through to a medium-bodied and fresh palate. Firm, too, with crunchy tannins. Drink or hold.

Marked by an unmistakable deep purple hue and savory aromatics, Syrah makes an intense, powerful and often age-worthy red. Native to the Northern Rhône, Syrah achieves its maximum potential in the steep village of Hermitage and plays an important component in the Red Rhône Blends of the south, adding color and structure to Grenache and Mourvèdre. Syrah is the most widely planted grape of Australia and is important in California and Washington. Sommelier Secret—Such a synergy these three create together, the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre trio often takes on the shorthand term, “GSM.”
