Winemaker Notes

This Loire-Valley Texture inspired wine is a sachet of delicate aromatics with expressive, lasting flavors. A layered perfume of kaffir lime, cilantro, and vanilla spice is followed by warm notes of white grapefruit, dried ginger, and a hint of honeydew melon. There is a rich touch of Meyer lemon cream with a lingering and lavish finish of dried apricot and hazelnuts.

A slight hint of petrol on the nose of this wine by veteran Kathy Joseph then ventures into delicate and soft aromas of preserved lemons and scratched grapefruit skin. It's edgy in style, treading a pithy line of tangelo, pomelo and yellow grapefruit, with racy and lingering lemon-spritz acidity.

Kathy Joseph established Fiddlehead Cellars to capture the pure essence of the two grape varieties that she loves best - Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. Fiddlehead's Sauvignon Blanc wines hail from the eastern end of the Santa Ynez Valley in Happy Canyon, while her estate Pinot Noirs showcase the cooler Santa Rita Hills in the western-most part of the transverse valley of Santa Barbara AVA. As one with a passion for the nuances of place, Kathy also crafts Pinot Noir from Oregon's Willamette Valley.

Fiddlehead produces approximately 5,000 cases of wine each year at "FiddleHeadquarters", their winery in the Lompoc Wine Ghetto. Once bottled, most of the wines age at least another year in their temperature controlled facility so that the diverse components of the wine are married and integrated, yet still layered with a pleasing complexity.

On the eastern end of the Santa Ynez Valley, the rolling hills of the tiny Happy Canyon AVA produce top quality reds from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and whites from Sauvignon blanc. The region’s low-nutrient soil grows smaller vines and in turn, higher quality wine grapes.
