Winemaker Notes
Terra de Promissio vineyard is a premier winemaking destination located in Petaluma, California. Boasting 50 acres of carefully tended vines, this vineyard is known for its outstanding Pinot Noir grapes, grown from a variety of clones including Dijon 115 and 777, 943, 97, and Field Blend. The unique terroir of Terra de Promissio, including its southwest sun exposure, hill elevation, and proximity to the Petaluma Gap, creates the perfect conditions for slow grape maturation and extended hang time. This results in grapes that are perfectly ripe and bursting with flavor, making for exceptional and age-worthy wines.

Creamy and dense notes of cherries dipped in maple syrup are followed by milk chocolate and cedar. Unique hints of toast, mint, and white pepper unfold gracefully thanks to supple tannins and a balanced acid structure.

Moving to the Sonoma Coast, the 2022 Pinot Noir Terra de Promissio Vineyard pours a youthful ruby/magenta color and is fruity and expressive on the nose with aromas of candied flowers, mixed berries, a light touch of blue fruit, and sweet sage. It offers fantastic energy on the palate, with bright, ripe acidity, saline, and balanced ripeness as well as ripe tannins, clean lift, and lasting notes of incense. My favorite in the range, this is a very nicely styled wine to enjoy over the next 15 years.

The 2022 Domaine Della Soberanes Vineyard Pinot Noir is beautifully complex. This wine shines with aromas and flavors of fragrant spices, dried spices, and mineral notes. Enjoy this wine with braised lamb shanks. (Tasted: October 12, 2024, San Francisco, CA)

Aromas of sour cherry, mint and fresh-cut flowers dominate the nose of this wine. The juicy, acid-driven palate displays cherry-berry compote, caramel, tangy lemon-orange zest and finally white flowers before the long finish fades.

Friendly and inviting, with a big burst of raspberry and boysenberry coulis flavors that stretch out nicely alongside notes of black tea, singed wood spice and briar. Shows nice length and definition.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Terra de Promissio is scented of strawberry, cinnamon stick, forest floor and potpourri. The light-bodied palate features concentrated, crunchy red fruit and generous oak spices. It has a silky texture, juicy acidity and a long, floral finish.
The Sonoma Coast AVA is large in area but, not counting overlapping regions like Russian River Valley, only has a few thousand acres of grapevines—and it’s no wonder. Much of the region is rugged and not easily accessible. Its proximity to the Pacific Ocean’s fog and cool breezes limits the varieties that can be cultivated, but it proves to be an ideal environment for high quality Pinot Noir.
Since fog is a frequent fact of life here, as are heavy marine layers that sometimes bring rain, the best vineyards are wisely planted above the fog line, on picturesque ridges that capture enough sun to provide even ripening. That, with the overnight drop in temperature that reliably preserves acidity, results in fine expressions of Pinot Noir that often receive tremendous critic and consumer praise alike, and are often in high demand.
