Winemaker Notes

This wine has aromas of rose petal and baking spices on the nose, which follow through on the palate along with flavors of ripe cherry and strawberry. It has elegant tannins with a long finish.

Professional Ratings

  • 93
A wine that offers clarity and an open-knit style. Floral, minty and slightly gamey, with dried cherries on the nose. Medium-bodied with firm, dusty tannins on the palate. Crunchy finish with crisp acidity. Try from 2027.

Cherry, cranberry, juniper, eucalyptus and iron flavors are intertwined with dense, linear tannins in this compact red. There’s ripe fruit at the core, yet this will require a few years to relax and reveal its potential. Best from 2028 through 2042.

Responsible for some of the most elegant and age-worthy wines in the world, Nebbiolo, named for the ubiquitous autumnal fog (called nebbia in Italian), is the star variety of northern Italy’s Piedmont region. Grown throughout the area, as well as in the neighboring Valle d’Aosta and Valtellina, it reaches its highest potential in the Piedmontese villages of Barolo, Barbaresco and Roero. Outside of Italy, growers are still very much in the experimentation stage but some success has been achieved in parts of California. Somm Secret—If you’re new to Nebbiolo, start with a charming, wallet-friendly, early-drinking Langhe Nebbiolo or Nebbiolo d'Alba.
