Winemaker Notes

The Malbec of the Rebón vineyard is attractive and complex. It has an excellent ruby ??red color and aromas of red fruit, blackberry jam and a fresh touch of violet and herbs, caramel, dried figs and a touch of anise. The palate has good structure, is round, elegant and with good concentration; It has firm tannins and a remarkable minerality. It is a fresh wine in the mouth, with a good finish.

Pure berry aromas give the impression of nothing but clarity and purity. This is saturated and pushing the ripeness meter to the edge of syrupy, but not quite. Blackberry, root beer and chocolate flavors are lush and dense, while this closes in a kind, smooth sort of way. All the Cobos Bramare Malbecs from 2015 are exemplary; drink this through 2028.

This is a more full-throttle malbec with undertones of dark berries, dried fruit, and figs. Full-bodied, juicy and rich. Chocolate character. Flavorful and ready. Big boy. But shows tension.

A ripe, refined and densely flavored red, with black olive accents to the dark plum, mocha and dried raspberry notes. Dried tarragon and chocolate nib accents fill the taut, powerful finish. Drink now through 2023.

Sourced from a young vineyard in La Consulta, the 2015 Bramare Malbec Rebon Estate was produced in a similar fashion as the other single-vineyard Malbecs in the Bramare range: fermented in stainless steel and matured for some 18 months in French oak barrels, 65% of them new. It's riper and more marked by the oak than the Zingaretti but fresher than the Marchiori, which was the ripest. The younger vines do not deliver the same depth and complexity as the older ones. It has good concentration and expression, a little too ripe and oaky but less than in the past.

Vina Cobos The Winery in Mendoza Winery Image

Viña Cobos makes wines that are authentic expressions of the terroir from which they come. Paul Hobbs, founding partner and winemaker at Viña Cobos, has worked since 1988 in the exploration of the different terroirs of Mendoza, looking for the most distinguished regions in Luján de Cuyo and the Valle de Uco, to produce wines that uniquely express their origins.

Sustainable farming methods in the vineyard contribute to consistent yields of healthy fruit. In the winery, careful treatment of the grapes and meticulous winemaking techniques result in complex and elegant wines of subtlety and balance.

With the inaugural vintage of Cobos Malbec in 1999, Viña Cobos marked a milestone in viticulture, defying existing standards and firmly positioned Malbec and Argentina on the international wine scene. Since then, our prestigious wines have been recognized around the globe by critics and consumers alike.

Celebrated for its bold flavors and supple texture, Malbec has enjoyed runaway success in Argentina since the late 20th century. The grape originated in Bordeaux, France, where it historically contributed color and tannin to blends. A French agronomist, who saw great potential for the variety in Mendoza’s hot, high-altitude landscape, brought Malbec to Argentina in 1868. Somm Secret—If you’re trying to please a crowd, Malbec is generally a safe bet with its combination of dense fruit and soft tannins.

Uco Valley Wine

Mendoza, Argentina

View all products

With a winning combination of cool weather, high elevation and well-draining alluvial soils, it is no surprise that Mendoza’s Uco Valley is one of the most exciting up-and-coming wine regions in Argentina. Healthy, easy-to-manage vines produce low yields of high-quality fruit, which in turn create flavorful, full-bodied wines with generous acidity.

This is the source of some of the best Malbec in Mendoza, which can range from value-priced to ultra-premium. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay also perform well here.
