Winemaker Notes

Along with dark, rich aromas of mocha, chocolate and marinated cherries, the wine breathes out a vibrancy and aromatic brightness, laced with notes of incense, graphite, and toasting oak. These complexities carry through to the palate, where mouthwatering fruit flavors and subtle space notes meld with the smoky, ore-rich undertones. Even at this young age, the tannins are already highly polished, so the wine is immediately enjoyable. However, it will continue to evolve and improve with years in the bottle.

Blend: 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petit Verdot.

    A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2012 Proprietary Red Blend spent nearly two years in French oak prior to bottling. Notes of sweet licorice, red and blackcurrants, coffee bean, white chocolate, spice box and subtle oak are all present in this pure, nicely textured, medium to full-bodied, voluptuous 2012. It can be drunk now or cellared for 12-15+ years.

    Flavors of dried berry, cedar and fresh-turned earth come together on the finish, but this never sheds the firm, gutsy tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2027.

Undoubtedly proving its merit over and over, Napa Valley is a now a leading force in the world of prestigious red wine regions. Though Cabernet Sauvignon dominates Napa Valley, other red varieties certainly thrive here. Important but often overlooked include Merlot and other Bordeaux varieties well-regarded on their own as well as for their blending capacities. Very old vine Zinfandel represents an important historical stronghold for the region and Pinot noir is produced in the cooler southern parts, close to the San Pablo Bay.

Perfectly situated running north to south, the valley acts as a corridor, pulling cool, moist air up from the San Pablo Bay in the evenings during the hot days of the growing season, which leads to even and slow grape ripening. Furthermore the valley claims over 100 soil variations including layers of volcanic, gravel, sand and silt—a combination excellent for world-class red wine production.
