Winemaker Notes

Deep purple in color, Redigaffi offers luscious layers of blueberry jam, ripe plum and blackberry, followed by voluptuous notes of dark chocolate, licorice, black pepper, vanilla and incense. Full-bodied and lush on the palate with polished tannins and an extra-long finish, Redigaffi is one of Italy’s greatest Merlots. A true masterpiece.

Superb wine here, offering aromas of dark berries, tobacco, tar, blackberries and black cherries. It changes all the time and is very complex with hints of meat. On the palate it's full-bodied and very well refined, showing wonderful tannin tension and polished texture. It closes with an amazing finish that lasts for minutes and turns to pure fruit. Better in 2018 but a fabulous young wine to taste now. A modern example of the legendary 1997 but more elegant.

The 2013 Redigaffi is a masterpiece from Coastal Tuscany. This is a phenomenal Merlot that offers so much intensity and generosity. These traits don't come easy and great risk is taken to give the grapes as much time as needed to ripen on the vines before harvest. Aromas of dark cherry, spice, wet earth and grilled herb are developed with stunning focus and precision. This is a thickly layered wine that literally sticks to your gums with gripping presence and ample power. The alcohol is is high and so is the dry extract, but both elements are well balanced and integrated. Ultimately, more importance is given to the complexity of the bouquet and it's fluid, ever-changing behavior. This wine just begs to be consumed, but bigger rewards await those who have the patience to wait. Don't miss this beauty.

2013 in Tuscany was a more classic vintage, producing wines with some elegance and freshness. There’s a distinct feeling of ‘macchia mediterranea’ about this wine, with notes of green herb, tomato leaf and wild flowers. It's still quite dense and brooding, but with some lighter, leafy notes and a refreshing palate with little, crunchy tannins. There's a lovely range of flavours, from sweet tobacco and oak spice to ripe black fruit and sappy, green herbs. A powerful but beautifully structured wine. Drinking Window 2018 - 2039

Wine Spectator
Plum, cherry, black currant, cedar, vanilla and toast flavors highlight this plush, flashy red, which is dense, needing time to absorb the oak, yet remains smooth in texture, building to the saturated finish. A hedonistic style. Merlot. Best from 2019 through 2028.

Cassis, bell pepper, toast, French oak and coconut lead the nose. The aromas carry over to the tightly wound palate along with raw red currant, powdered sage, licorice and a confectionery note. Close-grained tannins leave a rather astringent finish.

Rita Tua and her husband, Virgilio Bisti, bought approximately 37.5 acres of land in 1984 and planted it with Cabernet and Merlot. They later purchased an additional 17.5 acres of land, bringing the total estate to 55 acres, of which about 45 are planted with vines. The winery released its first vintage in 1992, and soon began receiving praise and accolades from wine enthusiasts worldwide for its rich, full-bodied wines. In just five short years, its 100% Merlot had achieved cult-like status, receiving outstanding ratings from the world’s most prestigious wine critics and publications. Critic Robert M. Parker Jr. said the 1999 Redigaffi was “as close to perfection as a wine can get.” The following year, he gave the 2000 Redigaffi a perfect 100 score. The winery’s Bordeaux blend, Giusti di Notri, also garners near-universal praise. Little wonder that Tua Rita’s wines are considered among the most difficult to find in Italy. Tua Rita is located in Suvereto, a small medieval town in the Tuscan province of Livorno, on the coast south of Bolgheri. The winery lies at just 300 feet above sea level, on clay, silty soil. Luca D'Attoma, the estate’s winemaker, keeps yields to a minimum to ensure concentration of flavors. The estate’s total annual production is currently just 3400 case

Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.

A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
