Winemaker Notes

The intense aroma displays the classic typicity of the Mas La Plana terroir, along with notes of toast, white chocolate, and spices such as clove and pepper. Full, voluminous, and lively on the palate. Mature tannins promise a bright future and excellent aging potential.

Wine Enthusiast
Spain's preeminent varietal Cabernet is excellent in its 40th rendition. This single-vineyard wine opens with dark, brooding aromas of rooty spice, licorice, tar, herbs, cassis and prune. In the mouth, this is wiry and tight at the core, but friendly around the edges. Flavors of currant, toast, vanilla, pepper and barbecue sauce finish with ripping acidity but also cuddly, creamy weight. Drink from 2017 through 2030.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Always a good Mediterranean Bordeaux blend, the 2010 Gran Coronas Mas la Plana Estate Black Label is the 40th release of this wine which has obviously changed over time, but has always been Cabernet Sauvignon-based. Loads of graphite, peat, pencil lead and ripe blackberries fused to undertones of tobacco, cedar wood and plenty of black pepper make it a textbook example of a warm-climate Cabernet in a perfectly ripe vintage. It has very fine, noble tannins and great acidity. This is one of the most balanced vintages of Mas La Plana I remember, and it should have a great development in bottle. Approachable now, it should age effortlessly for 20+ years.

This smooth red offers flavors of cherry, cigar box, baking spices and vanilla that mingle over polished tannins, with orange peel acidity imparting liveliness through the spicy finish. Harmonious and generous. Drink now through 2023.

Aromas of dark fruits, meat and black currants. Perfumed. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Pretty polished texture to this wine. Cabernet sauvignon. Always delicious and juicy. Drink now or hold.

The Torres family has been related to wine since the 17th century when their ancestors first planted vines in the Penedès, a winegrowing region dating to the days of the Phoenicians. Founded in 1870, Bodegas Torres has preserved family ownership of the company while diligently combining tradition and innovation.

For five generations, Torres has been a leader in the Spanish wine industry with properties in the top regions including Catalunya, Penedès, Priorat, Conca de Barberà, Ribera del Duero, Rioja, Rueda, Campo de Borja, Rias Biaxas, Costers del Segre, Jumilla and Toro. The family’s dedication to wine quality and producing wines that reflect their origins has been recognized by leading media outlets throughout the world. From traditional wines such as Sangre de Toro celebrating its 60th vintage to the legendary single vineyard wine Mas La Plana, Torres’ broad diversity of vineyards allows selection of the best sites for each grape variety.

Known for its bold, heady, rustic and age-worthy red wines, Spain is truly a one-of-a-kind wine-producing nation. A great majority of the country is hot, arid and drought-ridden, and since irrigation has only been recently introduced and (controversially) accepted, viticulture has sustained—and flourished—only through a great understanding of Spain’s particular conditions. Large spacing between vines allows each enough resources to survive and as a result, the country has the most acreage under vine compared to any other country, but is usually third in production.

Most planted and respected is Tempranillo, the star of Spain’s Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions. Priorat specializes in bold red blends, Jumilla has gained global recognition for its single varietal Monastrell and Utiel-Requena has garnered recent attention for its reds made of Bobal.
