Tormaresca Neprica 2008
The 2008 Neprica is a great example of the inexpensive, utterly delicious reds southern Italy is capable of. This plump, juicy Neprica offers lovely dark fruit, licorice and herbs on a powerful frame. It is an incredible value. Neprica is a blend of Negroamaro, Primitivo and Cabernet Sauvignon. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2012.
A fresh Mediterranean red, this blends negroamaro with primitivo and cabernet sauvignon to build its warm, lasting flavors. The spicy, dark fruit sweetness balances savory, gentle tannins, finishing clean and bright. Ready for the beach or a sausage pizza.
The Tormaresca estate is composed of two properties: one in Minervino Murge (Bari) a 100 hectare (247 acre) estate located in the Castel del Monte D.O.C. region, 40 miles from the Adriatic Sea; the other property is a 500 hectare (1,235 acre) estate near San Pietro Vernotico (Brindisi), closer to the sea in the Salento DOC region.
The new cellar is located at Minervino Murge while the commercial and administrative offices are in the city of Bari, halfway between the two properties.
The Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked...
The Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without thinking of the other. Although Cabernet has many important outposts throughout the wine world, nowhere else has it achieved such success (and, at the highest end, commanded such lofty prices) than in Napa. Here, it is responsible for bold, opulent, and dark-fruited wines with grippy tannins and a healthy dose of alcohol. The best examples can age for decades. Each of Napa’s smaller sub-AVAs imparts a different character to Cabernet, such as Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
