Winemaker Notes

The 2001 Oliver's Vineyard Chardonnay reflects the character of the ideal growing conditions of 2001, as well as an ongoing commitment to the best possible winegrowing techniques. Probably the most delicious Oliver's Vineyard bottling to date, the 2001 displays aromas of pineapple, citrus and a hint of kumquat, but with more intensity and purity than previous vintages. These characteristics carry to the palate with notes of toasty oak and mineral and a clean and elegant finish. Oliver's Vineyard is a 16.5 acre vineyard planted entirely to Chardonnay located about 4 miles northwest of the Talley Vineyards winery in the neighboring Edna Valley. The vineyard was planted in 1991. The 2001 growing season was cool, especially during the critical period of ripening in August and September. Due to good weather during flowering in the spring, the vines set what appeared to be an average sized crop. The yield was 1.45 tons per acre, just less than half of normal.

Image of winery
Talley Vineyards is a small family-owned and operated winery located in the Arroyo Grande Valley on California's South Central Coast. This valley opens directly to the Pacific Ocean, making it one of the coolest and most temperate viticultural areas in California. The goal at Talley Vineyards is to produce estate bottled Chardonnay and Pinot Noir of uncompromising quality. Talley Vineyards is committed to the primacy of terrior in its wines, and every step taken from vine to bottle is reflective of this approach.
