Winemaker Notes
It is a lighter, more accessible, but well structured version of our traditional Cabernet, with the true Bordeaux traits of herbs and forest floor to go with its berry fruit. It remains typically Storybook in its clean, focused mouth feel, that avoids sweetness, providing instead a flavorful rendering of Bordeaux's unique savory yet fruity combination.
Blend: 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Petit Verdot, 22% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc

COMMENTARY: When I first met Proprietor Jerry Seps, in the early 1980s, we were both young men, and I felt that he made some of the finest "claret-style" Zinfandels. When I tasted the 2016 Four Reds, I now have to add that he produces elegant Bordeaux-style reds. TASTING NOTES: This wine shows refined and classic characters. Its aromas and flavors of bold and lasting black fruits should pair well with Beef Bourguignon. (Tasted: August 19, 2019, San Francisco, CA)

Undoubtedly proving its merit over and over, Napa Valley is a now a leading force in the world of prestigious red wine regions. Though Cabernet Sauvignon dominates Napa Valley, other red varieties certainly thrive here. Important but often overlooked include Merlot and other Bordeaux varieties well-regarded on their own as well as for their blending capacities. Very old vine Zinfandel represents an important historical stronghold for the region and Pinot noir is produced in the cooler southern parts, close to the San Pablo Bay.
Perfectly situated running north to south, the valley acts as a corridor, pulling cool, moist air up from the San Pablo Bay in the evenings during the hot days of the growing season, which leads to even and slow grape ripening. Furthermore the valley claims over 100 soil variations including layers of volcanic, gravel, sand and silt—a combination excellent for world-class red wine production.
