Distiller Notes

Uniqueness, originality, taste: in no other city in the world these concepts have a particular value as in Venice. It is no coincidence that Select was born right here, in the Castello district, the historic heart of the city. It is 1920 and Venice is in full ferment of the first post-war period. The young Pilla brothers, with their distillery and thanks to the great experience in the liqueur art, know how to seize that moment. In those years the aperitif ritual spreads and Select soon becomes the protagonist. As it was used for bitters, it was drunk mainly smooth, with the addition of soda or seltzer, but also mixed in numerous cocktails. Beginning in the 1970s, the Venetian Spritz became popular in the version we know today, to which bitter was added in addition to white wine and sparkling water. Select becomes its irreplaceable ingredient. Almost a century has passed since then, but still today Select is recognized as one of the true icons of the Venetian aperitif: a unique bitter, offered by the historic clubs in the Laguna and by the bartenders who know how to experiment.
