    Winemaker Notes

    A fresh and youthful wine featuring strawberry and raspberry fruit aromas with just a hint of oak. The flavors are soft and flavorful with an appealing tang on the finish. This wine reminds us of old time Zinfandel where the fruit is prominent and the wine very honest with great drinkability. This wine is not serious or complicated, and with none of the heavy influence of oak or overzealous cellaring, it is a great sipping wine.

    Blend: 86% Zinfandel, 10% Primitivo, 2% Roussanne, 1% Mourvedre, 1% Souzao

    Surrounded by some of America's oldest Zinfandel vineyards, Renwood Winery is located in the picturesque California foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Renwood produces world-class award winning wines from Amador County and the Sierra Foothills. Boston native Robert Smerling founded Renwood in 1993. Mr. Smerling fell in love with Amador County’s rich history and magnificent vineyards. A plan was set in place to build one of America's premier Zinfandel wineries.

    Wine production has grown from 2,500 cases in 1993 to over 100,000 cases today. The critics all agree Renwood produces consistently exceptional wines that cover the spectrum from big, bold, jammy Zins to wonderfully balanced Syrahs and Barberas.

    Renwood's Grandpere Zinfandel which comes from their Grandpere Vineyards is the oldest known clone of Zinfandel in America. All grapes are handpicked and fermented in small lots, then aged in oak barrels to preserve the unique character of each vineyard.

    A major force on the global playing field, California is the world’s fourth largest wine-producing region on the planet and the majority of land under vine here is devoted to red varieties, covering nearly double the vineyard acreage of whites.

    While the state’s incredibly diverse terrain and microclimates allow for countless red wine styles, the one factor unifying all California red wine is the abundance of sunshine and a long, consistent growing season, which leads to well-developed and fully ripened fruit.

    The most famous region today, of course, is the acclaimed Napa Valley, where Cabernet Sauvignon reigns as king.

    Sonoma County, nestled between Napa Valley and the Pacific Ocean, claims great variability in geography and microclimates. Here world-class Pinot Noir is possible from Sonoma’s cooler sites while old, gnarly Zinfandel vines survived Prohibition.

    The Central Coast, Lodi and the Sierra Foothills also excel in the production of Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and remain active frontiers for newer varieties, namely Rhône and Spanish.

    The cool Anderson Valley in California’s North Coast region is a fantastic source of Pinot noir.
