Pair with grilled and barbequed meats – Chianina beef in particular – roasted veal, spare ribs, ossobuco, and lamb or pork shanks. Excellent with smoked ricotta cheese, Parmigiano Reggiano and medium-matured pecorino. Serve at 16-18°C and open one hour before drinking.
Blend: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc

Wine Spectator
Black currant, plum, herb, thyme and sweet spice aromas and flavors mesh seamlessly with the tight matrix of tannins in this expressive, complex red. Shows harmony, depth and length, but needs time to integrate. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2021 through 2036.

James Suckling
The fresh-tobacco and berry character is impressive with cedar, iodine and blackberry undertones. Full-bodied and very polished with beautiful fruit and round tannins. Delicious now but hold until 2020.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (25%) and Cabernet Franc (10%) make up the lovely 2015 Bolgheri Superiore Sondraia. The fruit represents a best selection from various vineyard sites. The majority Cabernet Sauvignon component means the tannins are very fine, and you get sweetness from the Merlot. Expect notes of cinnamon and clove behind sage, rosemary and herbs. This wine offers a very balanced approach, with good harmony on the nose. In 2013 they made 80,000 bottles, but only 40,000 bottles of Sondraia were made in 2015 to reflect that special selection of fruit.

This blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc opens with aromas of bell pepper, dark berry and a whiff of underbrush. The concentrated savory palate offers cassis, blackberry jam, star anise and clove alongside chewy, polished tannins.

Wine & Spirits
Notes of green peppercorn leap out in this wine’s opening aromas, highlighting the cabernet franc that comprises just ten percent of the blend. Cabernet sauvignon takes over as the wine sits in the glass, revealing flavors of pipe tobacco and black currants. Hints of sweet spice and toasted nuts, gained during 18 months of aging in French oak barriques (70 percent new), give the wine an opulent, polished texture.

The best clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot have been planted at Poggio al Tesoro for the precise purpose of crafting top-class wines with bold international style. Vermentino and Syrah, which produce wines of unmistakable personality in this area, complete the selection of varieties planted at Poggio al Tesoro.
Classic and quality-oriented grape-growing and winemaking methods are also employed at harvest and in the cellar: the grapes are hand-selected and harvested in multiple passes, then go through an additional selection process at the winery. Red varieties are fermented separately and then blended together for superior balance and a unique flavor profile. The climate and the terroir at Poggio al Tesoro allow for ideal concentration and perfect balance between structure, aromas and tannins, resulting in lush wines of outstanding class and finesse.
One of the world’s most classic and popular styles of red wine, Bordeaux-inspired blends have spread from their homeland in France to nearly every corner of the New World. Typically based on either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, the best of these are densely hued, fragrant, full of fruit and boast a structure that begs for cellar time. Somm Secret—Blends from Bordeaux are generally earthier compared to those from the New World, which tend to be fruit-dominant.
An outstanding wine region made famous by Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, who planted Cabernet Sauvignon vines for his own consumption in 1940s on his San Guido estate, and called the resulting wine, Sassicaia. Today the region’s Tuscan reds are based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which can be made as single varietal wines or blends. The local Sangiovese can make up no more than 50% of the blends. Today Sassicaia has its own DOC designation within the Bogheri DOC appellation.
