Winemaker Notes

Aromas of dark chocolate, espresso roast, sweet cherries, and black currants. Floral notes of violets & cassis with hints of cedar, vanilla, and spice! Rich, plush mouthfeel with great structure & acidity. Stunning sweet red & black cherry fruit with hints of chocolate & cocoa powder. Fabulous density, richness, and intensity with excellent tannins & weight! Signature complex layers of rich fruit with hints of earth & minerality laced throughout. Bold, long finish with great acidity! Rich and complex, with hints of dark chocolate & espresso!

A great food wine, try pairing it with roast port and grilled veal chops, duck breast or a delicious bone-in ribeye.

The 2011 Right Bank Proprietary Red is a blend of 68% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon. A strong effort in this much trickier vintage (which was excessively maligned, if truth be known), this 2011 certainly suffers in comparison with the subsequent 2012 and 2013. Nevertheless, the wine has good opulence and a deep, forward, precocious nose of roasted coffee, black and red currants, forest floor, cedar wood and a touch of roasted herbs. It is ripe, medium-bodied, fleshy and should be a very quick developer. In fact, it is already close to full maturity, where it should last for another 8-10 years.

The 2011 Palazzo Right Bank Red Wine is all about red fruit and savory earth. The wine's bright currants do a great job in playing off of its dried herbs and sweet, earthy notes. Pair it with braised red meat dishes. (Tasted: October 4, 2017, San Francisco, CA)

Undoubtedly proving its merit over and over, Napa Valley is a now a leading force in the world of prestigious red wine regions. Though Cabernet Sauvignon dominates Napa Valley, other red varieties certainly thrive here. Important but often overlooked include Merlot and other Bordeaux varieties well-regarded on their own as well as for their blending capacities. Very old vine Zinfandel represents an important historical stronghold for the region and Pinot noir is produced in the cooler southern parts, close to the San Pablo Bay.

Perfectly situated running north to south, the valley acts as a corridor, pulling cool, moist air up from the San Pablo Bay in the evenings during the hot days of the growing season, which leads to even and slow grape ripening. Furthermore the valley claims over 100 soil variations including layers of volcanic, gravel, sand and silt—a combination excellent for world-class red wine production.
