Winemaker Notes

Aromas of sweet cedar, plum, and dried herb hint at the juicy flavors of plum and pomegranate in the glass. Subtle accents of green olive, earth and spice harmonize beautifully with the dark, rich fruit. Vibrant acidity helps the flavors linger on the palate, while integrated oak lengthens the finish.

James Suckling
This has real merlot character to it with freshly picked red berries, walnuts, tobacco and cedar. Medium to full body, fresh acidity and a driven finish. Drink now or hold.

Nickel & Nickel is devoted to 100% varietal, single-vineyard wines, focused on Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Its winemaking excellence is highlighted in its selection of the very best vineyard locations and unique soil compositions required to make superior single-vineyard wines. Each Nickel & Nickel wine is a celebration of place and reveals how vineyards only miles apart, but of the same grape varietal, yield wines of unique character and distinction.

Undoubtedly proving its merit over and over, Napa Valley is a now a leading force in the world of prestigious red wine regions. Though Cabernet Sauvignon dominates Napa Valley, other red varieties certainly thrive here. Important but often overlooked include Merlot and other Bordeaux varieties well-regarded on their own as well as for their blending capacities. Very old vine Zinfandel represents an important historical stronghold for the region and Pinot noir is produced in the cooler southern parts, close to the San Pablo Bay.

Perfectly situated running north to south, the valley acts as a corridor, pulling cool, moist air up from the San Pablo Bay in the evenings during the hot days of the growing season, which leads to even and slow grape ripening. Furthermore the valley claims over 100 soil variations including layers of volcanic, gravel, sand and silt—a combination excellent for world-class red wine production.
