Winemaker Notes

#96 Wine Enthusiast Top 100 of 2018

This wine displays inviting aromas of blackberry, cherry, and spice that have interplay with well-integrated oak. The palate displays vibrant fruit. Spice with layers of cocoa and cherry. The wine is supported by supple tannins and a long balanced finish.

This wine pairs well with grilled foods like lamb burgers, and trip-tip but it’s also great with spicy foods like Moroccan eggplant tagine.

Blend: 66% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, 8% Carignan, 5% Syrah

Mint, chocolate and cherry flavors intermingle in this dry, full-bodied and firmly tannic wine blended from Bordeaux grape varieties. It offers plenty of blackberry notes shaded by black pepper and smoke and will stand up to the juiciest protein you can order.

Skyside, California
Skyside Winery Video

Skyside carries over 40 years of rich winemaking experience in the Napa Valley, imbued with California golden spirit. This heritage makes them true experts in identifying the best terroirs and gives them wings to source the highest quality grapes from all Northern California for their Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Red Blend.

Driven by the ambition to expand horizons, encounter, share, enjoy and make memories, the goal is to produce a new collection of American wines of outstanding value, beyond their Californian home.

One of the world’s most classic and popular styles of red wine, Bordeaux-inspired blends have spread from their homeland in France to nearly every corner of the New World. Typically based on either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, the best of these are densely hued, fragrant, full of fruit and boast a structure that begs for cellar time. Somm Secret—Blends from Bordeaux are generally earthier compared to those from the New World, which tend to be fruit-dominant.

Reaching up California's coastline and into its valleys north of San Francisco, the North Coast AVA includes six counties: Marin, Solano, Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake. While Napa and Sonoma enjoy most of the glory, the rest produce no shortage of quality wines in an intriguing and diverse range of styles.

Climbing up the state's rugged coastline, the chilly Marin County, just above the City and most of Sonoma County, as well as Mendocino County on the far north end of the North Coast successfully grow cool-climate varieties like Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and in some spots, Riesling. Inland Lake County, on the other hand, is considerably warmer, and Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Sauvignon Blanc produce some impressive wines with affordable price tags.
