Winemaker Notes

This wine is a blend of the classic Bordeaux varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. This Cabernet grapes are sourced from premium vineyards in McLaren Vale, Hunter Valley and King Valley while the Merlot is sourced from McLaren Vale. The handpicked fruit was fermented, then left for two weeks on skins before being pressed into new and old American and French oak for 15 months. Leafy tobacco and ripe plum fruit characters are supported by cinnamon oak on the nose. The wine has good weight and length with soft, velvet-like tannins. While drinking well now, cellaring for 4-5 years will be rewarded with improvement of this wine.

Meerea Park, Australia
Meerea Park, situated in the Lower Hunter Valley, is the vineyard and winery jointly owned and managed by two brothers – Garth and Rhys Eather. The name ‘Meerea’ means beautiful mountain in aboriginal, and commemorates one of the most striking features of the Bulga area of the Blue Mountains in New South Wales, home to the Eather family since 1797. Viticulture has always been part of the Eather family on the Meerea property, with over 169 years of continual family ownership. Meerea Park was established in 1991, but represents an incredible family history dating back to the late 1700’s when Thomas Eather arrived in Australia – making the Eather’s one of Australia’s oldest pioneering wine families. In the 1860’s fruit from the Meerea vineyard was sold to Alexander Munro, legend in Hunter Valley history, who was at one time the largest producer of wine in New South Wales. The top red wine produced by Rhys Eather in certain years is given the designation ‘Alexander Munro’ to commemorate the contribution of this famous personality to the development of Hunter Valley wines. Since the first release in 1991, Meerea Park has established a reputation as one of the truly elite producers in the Lower Hunter Valley.
