Winemaker Notes

This 100% Pinot Noir from the Mendocino Ridge Appellation is intimate, tumultuous, and intense. The vineyards, from peaks above the fog line and planted with Clone 115 and 777, are sustainably farmed and have very small yields & production. 696 Bottles Produced.

This elegant pinot noir has the surety of fresh, completely ripe fruit. It's all of a piece, the tannins fully integrated, the plump fruit lasting in a distinctly earthy finish. Still closed, this needs bottle age to develop complexity. Jean-Charles Boisset makes JCB with the winemaking team at De Loach.

Wine Enthusiast
An interesting new wine that aims for balance and elegance rather than powerful fruit extraction. Shows an acid-inspired crispness that brightens wild berry, currant, cola and peppery spice flavors. Despite the silky mouthfeel, it feels undeveloped. This score reflects its current drinkability, but it could surprise in 4–6 years or longer.

A somewhat more deeply pitched nose features a bit more earth as well as blue berry notes together with similar very fresh red pinot fruit that merges into richer, fuller and more complex medium-bodied flavors that possess better mid-palate concentration and a bit more length as well. I like the sappy texture and this is a mix of both fruit and soil-driven components. Lovely and overall, there is just more here. 90/2011+

JCB
Jean-Charles Boisset, the visionary behind JCB, is fervently passionate about Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from both his native Burgundy as well as from Sonoma County, where he owns DeLoach Vineyards. JCB wines are crafted to express a style that embodies only the finest characteristics of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

Backed by centuries of tradition, our wines speak for themselves. To taste them is to discover what happens when terroir, talent, and vision come together.

"What if we could capture style and hold it in the bottle, along with all of its heritage, treasures and promises? What if that uncompromising personality - audacious, unique, mysterious, passionate, subtle - was revealed from one bottle to another by a distinct number, until it was all held in a limited collection of wines? A collection of rare numbered edition wines, composed by Jean-Charles Boisset, stemming from centuries of Burgundian family tradition combined with the graceful exploration of sophisticated terroir where elegance, delicacy, refinement and finesse can be discovered. A way of reinventing time and celebrating style that goes beyond fashion: This is the spirit of JCB."

Cabernet Franc

View all wine

The subtler and more delicate of the Cabernets, Cabernet Franc is the proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon and shares many of the structural elements of Bordeaux’s cornerstone variety. In Bordeaux, Cabernet Franc is often planted as an insurance policy against its later-ripening offspring, as it is more likely to thrive in a difficult harvest. But don’t mistake Cabernet Franc for merely a supporting player—this grape variety produces outstanding wines on its own or as the dominant component of a blend. It produces perhaps its most alluring wines in France’s Loire Valley, in the regions of Chinon, Bourgueil, and Saumur-Champigny, where brighter, riper wines can be achieved. Outside of France, Cabernet Franc has performed quite well in parts of California, New York, and Virginia.

In the Glass

Paler, lighter, crisper, softer, and much more aromatic than its progeny, Cabernet Franc typically tastes of red raspberries, cherries, and herbs, with a stunning perfume of violets, tobacco, and spice.

Perfect Pairings

Mouthwatering acidity makes Cabernet Franc an incredibly food-friendly wine, helping to cut through the richness of fatty meat dishes. It especially shines in tandem with lamb, and its affinity for the spice cabinet allows it to pair perfectly with Chinese dishes prepared with Szechuan pepper and five-spice.

Sommelier Secrets

Under-ripe Cabernet Franc can be leafy and green with harsh tannins and mouth-searing acidity, so it is best to avoid highly spiced curries and fiery chili dishes.
