    Winemaker Notes

Aromas of cinnamon, anise and tea are present in the nose, with fresh blackberries and some vanilla in the background. Flavors present themselves in a similar fashion to the aromas, with the smooth tannins making this wine easy to drink in its youth. With additional bottle aging, the wine will continue to improve. This wine pairs well with spicy Oriental dishes, pizza, Mexican foods, Cajun dishes and most red meats. I enjoy this wine in lieu of a beer in many instances and it's great at barbecues and picnics. Cabernet Franc is always a joy to make and I hope you enjoy the efforts of all of here at Hahn Estates. Sante. -Art Nathan, Winemaker

    Hahn Winery
Our founder, Nicky Hahn, grew up speaking German. In his native language, the word ‘Hahn’ means rooster, which is why a depiction of this bird has always graced the label of our Hahn wines. From the beginning, Nicky strove to produce exceptional varietal wines from Monterey County where Hahn’s vineyards and winery are located.

This assemblage of classically-styled varietal wines—along with our GSM Rhone-inspired blend—are now under the care of second-generation vintner Philip Hahn, who proudly carries on his father’s legacy. Vintage after vintage, we style our Hahn wines to be fruit-forward, balanced and supple. Our vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands and Arroyo Seco AVAs are a significant source of fruit for these wines.

With a distinctly Mediterranean climate featuring warm days and cool nights, the Lodi AVA in California’s Central Valley provides growers with ideal conditions for grape-growing. As most of the rain falls in winter months while vines are dormant, the risk of disease and pest problems is low and irrigation can make up for the dry conditions during harvest.

By a wide margin, Zinfandel is the most successful and widely planted variety in Lodi. Often made from old vines, these wines are robust and fleshy with ripe, plummy fruit and represent excellent value at the lower end of the price spectrum. Over 100 other varieties are grown here, ranging from the classic (Merlot, Chardonnay) to the obscure and experimental (Portugal’s Touriga Nacional, France's Picqpoul).
