Winemaker Notes

The 2019 starts out fruity and intense on the palate, then finishes seemingly drier than usual. Very pleasing with great tension and better "snap" than you'd expect in 2019, this is exciting to drink.

Who cares what is for dinner, this wine will work with it (as long as it’s not pudding)! A very attractive and refreshing, medium-dry riesling with so much wild-herb and tart-peach character. Long, dry, mineral finish with an attractive spritz that pulls you back to the glass.

The Gunderloch estate in Nackenheim, just southwest of Frankfurt, was founded in 1890 by the banker Carl Gunderloch on the banks of the river Rhine. From the beginning, the estate was run with a strict commitment to quality. He bought top vineyard sites, including a large part of great Nackenheim Rothenberg. Since its foundation, the estate has stayed in the same family, now in its fifth generation, with Agnes and Fritz Hasselbach. It comprises 30 acres of vineyards in the towns of Nacknheim and Nierstein. The principal grape varietal is Riesling, which finds its most powerful espression in the Nackenheim Rothenberg vineyard. The combination of its steepness, exposure, soil structure and proximity to the river gives the Rothenberg vineyard the optimal microclimates for ripening its famous Rieslings.
