    Torre San Millan, Spain
    Torre San Millan Winery Image
Torre San Millan was created by the Martinez family, built to resemble the surrounding buildings and equipped with a full winemaking team. The wine produced here is a tribute to the old town which saw the birth of the vineyards in the region: Gorrebusto. Like their ancestors, the family picks the grapes by hand and tries to unite the traditional winemaking with modern and natural winemaking.

The estate vineyards are located in different places in the Rioja Alavesa region, between the river Ebro and the Sierra de Cantabria. The family takes care personally of the vineyards, which allows them to control every step of the winemaking (always respecting the environment) to achieve the highest quality of its grapes.

Hailed as the star red variety in Spain’s most celebrated wine region, Tempranillo from Rioja, or simply labeled, “Rioja,” produces elegant wines with complex notes of red and black fruit, crushed rock, leather, toast and tobacco, whose best examples are fully capable of decades of improvement in the cellar.

Rioja wines are typically a blend of fruit from its three sub-regions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental, although specific sub-region (zonas), village (municipios) and vineyard (viñedo singular) wines can now be labeled. Rioja Alta and Alavesa, at the highest elevations, are considered to be the source of the brightest, most elegant fruit, while grapes from the warmer and drier, Rioja Oriental, produce wines with deep color, great body and richness.
