Winemaker Notes
Curious, you sit down to listen. As you sip your drink, notes flow smoothly from the stage, like cola, gentle but bubbly on the way down-then the snap! of almond bark, the twinge of black cherries as the tempo changes. Your heart begins to quicken. The musician opens his mouth to sing, his voice raspy, a touch of smoke, a hint of pepper. It draws an emotion you cannot name, yet it soothes you: like black tea, perhaps, the warm comforts of clove and cinnamon. Each element unique but familiar, becoming something new altogether, joined in perfect harmony. You know you are witnessing history.

COMMENTARY: The 2018 Field Recordings Wonderwall Pinot Noir is a beautiful wine that plays nicely on the palate. TASTING NOTES: This wine is stylish, pretty, and delicate on the palate. Its fresh aromas and flavors of red fruits and floral notes should pair perfectly with an herb-seasoned roast chicken. (Tasted: May 21, 2019, San Francisco, CA)

Field Recordings is 40-year old winemaker Andrew Jones’ personal catalog of the people and places he values most. Spending his days as a vine nursery fieldman planning and planting vineyards for farmers all over California, Andrew is sometimes offered small lots of their best fruit on the side. Having stood in just about every vineyard on the Central Coast, he has a keen eye for diamonds in the rough: sites that are unknown or under-appreciated but hold enormous untapped potential. As friendships are made and opportunities are embraced, Andrew produces small quantities of soulful wine from these unusual, quiet vineyards.
Wonderwall focuses on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from extreme, coastal locations. Breaking through and breaking rules. Alloy Wine Works is a collection of varietal wines packaged only in tallboy 500 ml cans. The perfect balance of inventive spirit and rural charm. Each can is pure craft wine, not to be "hip" or "relevant", but because we want to. Fiction, the original spin-off label, is a white and red wine produced from multiple vineyards and multiple varieties. Taking what the season gives us and creating a blend made for every occasion. Ready for tonight, tomorrow or this weekend.
Field Recordings is an Oregon Tilth certified organic winery.
Say the words “Paso Robles Pinot Noir,” and some folks might give you a funny look. After all, the region has become famous for Zinfandel, Cabernet and Rhone varieties like Syrah and Grenache. But Pinot? It turns out, however, that Paso Pinot not only has some history, but a very promising future. As in the field of real estate, it all comes down to location, location, location.
Pinot Noir was made here as early as the 1970’s, with further efforts coming in the 1990’s. But it couldn’t happen just anywhere. Typically the sub-appellations on the Westside, namely Adelaida, Templeton Gap, York Mountain and Willow Creek, which benefit from the cooling effect of the nearby Pacific Ocean, turn out the most impressive Pinot Noir, redolent of red fruit, loamy forest floor and floral tones.
