Winemaker Notes

The 2015 Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon has deep concentrated aromas of chocolate-covered cherries alongside bright floral notes. The entry of this wine is juicy with a silky-smooth texture that builds through the mid-palate. Mouthwatering dark cherry flavors are supported with well-integrated oak. This wine is an excellent balance of lush, mouth-filling tannins and bright, fresh acidity on the finish.<p>97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot

Just a dash of Petit Verdot is added to this wine, with the Cabernet Sauvigon coming from the Martin Stelling Vineyard that stands regally behind the winery. This starts off with soft aromas of cassis and red cherry, which appear on the palate that’s built by sizable tannins and texture. The richness is defined in dark chocolate, with just enough acidity to keep the mouthfeel succulent and lush.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Estate (composed of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot) has notions of fragrant earth, dried leaves and Chinese five spice over a core of black cherries, black currants and blueberries plus a waft of bouquet garni. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers intense, crunchy, youthful black fruits framed by fine-grained tannins and a lively backbone, finishing with an herbal lift.

A classic effort, the sophisticated and seamless 2015 Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon displays beautiful dark fruits and pleasing oak aromas and flavors. The wine's rich and sweet tannins pair it nicely with a well-marbled Porterhouse steak. (Tasted: November 21, 2017, San Francisco, CA)

Notes of crème de cassis, toasted spice, and sweet licorice all emerge from the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, which is based on 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot. Sweetly fruited, upfront, charming and decadently styled, with ripe tannin and moderate concentration, it’s ideal for drinking anytime over the coming decade.

Lots of ripe but not overripe cabernet character with blackcurrant compote, morello cherries, vanilla, spices and dust. Fresh black fruit on the palate with a pretty acid and tannin backbone. Minerally finish. Drink now or hold.

A noble variety bestowed with both power and concentration, Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys success all over the globe, its best examples showing potential to age beautifully for decades. Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes in Bordeaux's Medoc where it is often blended with Merlot and smaller amounts of some combination of Cabernet Franc, Malbecand Petit Verdot. In the Napa Valley, ‘Cab’ is responsible for some of the world’s most prestigious, age-worthy and sought-after “cult” wines. Somm Secret—DNA profiling in 1997 revealed that Cabernet Sauvignon was born from a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in 17th century southwest France.

Home to some of the most sought-after Cabernet Sauvignon in America, Napa Valley’s Oakville district stretches across the center of Napa's valley floor and foothills between the Vaca and Mayacamas Mountains. This AVA is home to the legendary To Kalon Vineyard and Martha's Vineyard, as well as many powerhouse wineries including Screaming Eagle, Silver Oak, Robert Mondavi, Opus One, Far Niente and Groth.

The climate is generally warm and agreeable, resulting in year after year of favorable vintages. Summer days see a gentle tug of war between warmer inland air and the cool air coming in from the San Pablo Bay, creating an ideal environment to grow red varieties. Oakville's diverse soils, namely ancient sea bedrock, clay and gravel, are well-drained, and perfect for high-caliber viticulture.

Cabernet here is often bottled varietally but is also popular in Bordeaux Blends. Oakville wines are known for their silky, sensual textures, structured tannins, dark and brooding fruit and lovely aromatics. These age-worthy and prestigious wines are favored by collectors throughout the world.
