Winemaker Notes
Medium intensity ruby in color with a pink hint at the rim. The nose shows good aromatic intensity with aromas of fresh wild berries and licorice which are typical of wines made from Tempranillo grapes. These are well integrated with the sweet spice aromas from the barrel ageing process. The palate is soft and marked by silky tannins and a long, fruity and youthful finish.
The wine pairs well with all types meat, fish, stews and cheeses.
Blend: 85% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha, Graciano, Mazuelo

A very fresh and clean wine with plums, dark berries and hints of cedar. Medium to full body, integrated tannins and a bright finish. Excellent now, but better in 2020.

The first wine made by family-owned CVNE (founded in 1879) was named after the winery's initials, but a mistake - the 'V' was written as a 'U' - led to the creation of the Cune label. This Reserva is 85% Tempranillo, with 15% Garnacha Tinta, Graciano and Mazuelo, aged for 18 months in French and American oak. There's a savoury edge to the attractive black and red fruit aromas, plus sweet spice from the oak. The layered palate has a silky black fruit attack, spice and leather notes, with medium tannins. Nicely judged oak. A great food wine. Drinking Window 2020 - 2024

Forest floor and smoky notes lend a woodsy character to this red. Juicy acidity accents a core of cherry and red plum flavors, supported by fine tannins. Polished and graceful, with an appealing earthiness. Drink now through 2025.

The 2015 Cune Reserva is the classical blend of Tempranillo with 15% Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo. It's approachable and easy to drink without being banal, the entry-level wine of the Reserva range if you like. It has a mixture of red and black fruit and good ripeness without excess. In fact, it feels quite fresh for the natural conditions of the year, which was very warm and dry.

Cvne, is situated in Rioja in the traditional neighborhood of the station, where the oldest wineries of Rioja Alta established themselves, for the main reason of transporting their goods to the port of Bilbao.
In 1879, two brothers decided to set up a business in the recently flourishing trade of the wine business. C.V.N.E., Compañía Vinicola del Norte de España (The Northern Spanish Wine Company) or la Cuné, as it is commonly known in Haro, was created. This cellar still reflects the origins of the company and is kept in the traditional neighborhood of the Haro station.
The Cune winery in Haro, is made up of a group of buildings, mostly from the 19th century and arranged around a courtyard surrounded by pavilions for the purpose of wine production, aging, and bottling.
Hailed as the star red variety in Spain’s most celebrated wine region, Tempranillo from Rioja, or simply labeled, “Rioja,” produces elegant wines with complex notes of red and black fruit, crushed rock, leather, toast and tobacco, whose best examples are fully capable of decades of improvement in the cellar.
Rioja wines are typically a blend of fruit from its three sub-regions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental, although specific sub-region (zonas), village (municipios) and vineyard (viñedo singular) wines can now be labeled. Rioja Alta and Alavesa, at the highest elevations, are considered to be the source of the brightest, most elegant fruit, while grapes from the warmer and drier, Rioja Oriental, produce wines with deep color, great body and richness.
