    Winemaker Notes

Chateau Peybonhommes-les-Tours is a bright red color with purple notes, with earthy, dried cherry aromas, bright, high-toned fruit flavors of cherry and raspberry. Soft, medium-bodied, with good length and depth, it is a perfect Bordeaux (or even the ubiquitously fashionable Merlot!) for everyday drinking.

    Chateau Peybonhomme les Tours, France
One of the few cru bourgeois in the Premieres Cotes de Blaye, Chateau Peybonhomme-les-Tours borders the Gironde estuary with delightful views of the shipping lanes and Margaux and St. Julien beyond. Named for the hillock once under the control of the Albigensians, the estate has been recognized for making fine wine since the middle of the 18th century. The current owner, Jean-Luc Hubert, manages some 60 hectares with an average production of 35,000 cases per year.

In most of France, wines are named by their place of origin and not by the type of grape (with the exception of Alsace). Just like a red Burgundy is by law, always made of Pinot noir, a red Bordeaux is a blended wine composed mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Depending on the laws of the village from which the grapes come, the conditions of the vintage and decisions of the winemaker, the blend can be further supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and in rare cases, Carmenere. So popular and repeated has this mix of grape varieties become worldwide, that the term, Bordeaux Blend, refers to a wine blended in this style, regardless of origin.
