This is elegant, fresh and structured, with its blackberry fruit shining right through the wood. Style trumps power in this wine.

This is very racy and long with full body, silky tannins and an intense minerally, citrus rind character. It lasts for minutes. Goes to a pleasant bitterness. Dark chocolate too. Muscular with tension.

Harvested between September 12-27, the fruit-driven 2011 Petrus is atypically forward and already appealing. It reveals lots of mulberry and dark cherry fruit along with surprising tannin. However, the latter component does not interfere with the wine’s classic, structured style. Tipping the scales at 13.5% natural alcohol, it is made from 100% Merlot and is aged in 55% new oak. An excellent to outstanding Petrus (although much lighter than the 2010, 2009 and 2008), it should be drinking well within 2-4 years and last for 15-20.

Wine Spectator
This sports sweet spice, bitter cherry and light briar notes, with lively, pebbly tannins guiding the finish. Slightly high-pitched notes of blood orange and red currant fill in as well. Delivers range and length, yet lacks the depth of the top wines in this vintage. Best from 2015 through 2025.
The work done in the vineyard is fastidious - severe pruning in the winter, regular ploughing, crop-thinning, de-leafing, manicuring the clusters in the summer - and allows the perfect ripening of the fruit. The grape are manually harvested within two afternoons and sorted before crush.
Fermentation is carried out gently, without any overextraction, in temperature-controlled concrete tanks. The blend, very often pure Merlot, is defined in December and the young wine is aged in 100% new oak barrels.
This property made famous by Madame Edmond Loubat and then by Monsieur Jean-Pierre Moueix, culminates at 130 feet on the plateau of Pomerol. Ets Jean-Pierre Moueix is responsible for the cultivation, vinification and aging as well as the export distribution of Petrus wines.
