The 2020 Chateau Larrivet Haut-Brion is a gorgeous, incredibly satisfying Pessac, and it's certainly up with the finest vintages I've tasted from this estate. It has lots of red, blue, and black fruits as well as ample spice, leafy tobacco, truffle, and smoked earth, and it develops a beautiful sense of complexity and nuance with time in the glass. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it shows the vibrant, elegant style of the vintage, has ripe tannins, perfect overall balance, and a great finish. If you love a great Graves, buy a case of this beauty and enjoy over the next two decades. This estate continues to fly too far under the radar for most consumers.

Dominated by Sauvignon Blanc that has been wood aged, this wine offers lovely ripe lemon and spice flavors. With its acidity and mineral texture. Drink from 2026.

The 2020 Larrivet Haut-Brion bursts with aromas of red berries, vine smoke, orange rind and petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, lively and complete palate built around powdery tannins and vibrant fruit flavors. The team employed some whole bunch for their old vine Cabernet Franc this year, and the results are excellent. This is an impressively vibrant, harmonious wine from this address. Best after 2025.

Quite ripe, with a mix of loganberry, mulberry and plum compote flavors that move through slowly, framed with alder, savory and red tea accents. Everything melds steadily through the finish, picking up red tea and bay leaf hints along the way. A strong effort for the vintage. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2025 through 2035.

Aromas of black cherries and currants with cloves and licorice, some dark chocolate and wet earth. Medium-bodied with an array of ripe, juicy tannins and a chalky texture. Vivid and succulent with dark fruits and a polished finish. Hints of nut shell and iodine at the end.

Well worked aromatics, expressive while still being subtle. Great location just down the road from Haut-Bailly, this has plenty of power through the core of the wine with dark fruits, rosemary and sage spices - good quality. Shuts down on the finish a little. A yield of 28hl/ha, 100% new oak for Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc, and entirely amphora for the Merlots. Tasted twice.

Chateau Larrivet Haut-Brion Winery Image
Chateau Larrivet Haut-Brion was acquired by the Gervoson family in 1987. They restored the estate's unity, once again combining the Chateau, outbuildings, 13 hectares of grounds, and 42 hectares of vines under one owner, as well as replanting 18 hectares of land that had laid fallow.

A team of enthusiastic professionals has done a wonderful job of giving Chateau Larrivet Haut-Brion back its superb reputation, and the estate is once again universally recognised as one of the finest wines in the Pessac-Léognan appellation.
